Cicada Challenge

25” wide x 34” high

A local quilt shop, the Artful Quilter, sponsored this challenge during the year of the cicada.  They supplied two tiny color samples (orange and apple green) and required that those colors be present somewhere on the front of the quilt.  All in all, the guidelines were pretty easy.

The bugs are mostly fused, held down with some satin stitching and lots of freemotion quilting.  The legs are tubes of fabric and the cicada on the right has pipe cleaners in his legs to make them dimensional.

Magicicada Septendecim took third place behind two wonderful quilts, one of which re-created the familiar windshield splat.

This quilt is in my collection.
