The following classes are offered through the Quilt Patch in Fairfax, Virginia.  To attend any of these classes, you must register through the Quilt Patch

Art Quilt Series

The classes in the Art Quilt series are sequential.  To join, you need to start with 101.  This is not a reflection of your skill level; it simply means that your group will travel through the class sequence together and have the same foundation and experiences.  In addition, you'll get to know your classmates, which makes the whole critique process so much easier.

Art Quilts 101 Appropriate for beginners as well as experienced quilters, this class will explore design basics.  We'll also talk about keeping track of all your ideas.  Homework assignments will reinforce class activities and are designed to help you develop your own artistic identity. Click here for the supply list.

Art Quilts 102

Color theory.  We'll look at color vocabulary, color relationships, and your personal palette.  No supply list.

Art Quilts 103

More design theory.  We'll talk about integrating all of the design principles we've covered so far.  No supply list.

Art Quilts 104

Design exercises and more hands-on classwork.  We'll talk about how to look at art quilts objectively and determine what we like (and don't like) and why.  No supply list.

Art Quilts 201 Do you feel as though you missed some art training that would benefit you in your journey as an art quilter?  We'll explore artful topics and work through visual exercises in class.   Click here for the supply list.
Art Quilts 202 Explore more artful topics with an emphasis on how to merge visual exercises with art quilting.  Click here for the supply list.

Finishing Techniques for Art Quilters

Are you tired of using traditional bindings on your art quilts?  This workshop will present you with finishing options including facings, the "escape hatch finish" and fused bindings.

Click here for the supply list.  Friday, May 16, from 10 to 1.

Tsukineko Ink Basics

(If you missed this class in April, here's a second chance.) Sure, they look like fun, but what can you do with them?  This introductory class will cover how to apply these versatile inks with brushes and Fantastix applicators.  We'll also discuss how to showcase your work and how to use the inks for more subtle effects.  Useful for traditional and art quilters.  Click here for the supply list.  Supplies will be available at the Quilt Patch.  Friday, June13, from 10 to 1.

All About Angelina

Angelina fibers are so pretty, but how do you use them?  In this technique class, we'll explore the basics of mixing and bonding Angelina fibers and learn to emboss the Angelina sheets we create.  We'll also discuss how to use the fibers and how to embellish them for a variety of applications.  Check back later for the supply list.  Supplies will be available at the Quilt Patch.  Friday, August 8, from 10 to 1.
